(VOVWORLD) - The Ministry of Industry and Trade has launched an Earth Hour Campaign with the message “Save Energy, Save Earth”. Individuals and organizations are urged to join energy conservation activities or simply turn off lights and unnecessary electrical devices during the Earth Hour event in Hanoi from 8.30pm on March 30th.
Earth Hour is an initiative of the World Wildlife Fund to raise public awareness on climate change and energy conservation globally. Since its debut in 2007, Earth Hour has become the world’s biggest annual event in March. 7,000 cities in 172 countries and territories have responded to the campaign.
This year’s Earth Hour delivers a message to all people and countries to work together to protect the Earth, our common home. It’s not only about saving energy, but beginning a green life for ourselves and future generations.
Prestigious and influential people have been invited to be Ambassadors of the campaign. Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), Daikin Vietnam, and the Hanoi Beer, Alcohol, and Beverage Joint Stock Company are sponsoring the campaign.
Vo Quang Lam, EVN’s Deputy General Director, said: “EVN calls on all people to efficiently use energy to make the environment cleaner and more beautiful. We appeal to businesses and families to reduce energy use at peak hours to ensure a stable and safe network.”
Campaign activities include energy saving commitments from businesses, families, and production facilities, forums on green energy in the future, exhibitions, and a lights-off ceremony to be broadcast live on national TV.
