(VOVWORLD) - The conference "National value system, cultural value system, family value system, and standard of Vietnamese people in the new period" opens in Hanoi on Tuesday. The conference is one of a range of activities to clarify the content and basic components of these value systems in the new period, following the direction of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Cultural Conference to implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.

At the National Cultural Conference last November, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong recommended building a Vietnamese Value System, which includes a national value system, a cultural value system, a family value system, and standards of Vietnamese people in the new period. These are typical values, aspirations, and highest goals that the entire Vietnamese nation is aiming for.
Cultural and human values are the internal strength of national development
The national conference on Vietnamese value system was co-organized by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education, the Central Theoretical Council, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.

Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Commission for Communication and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia told VOV prior to the conference: “The Party’s documents, particularly documents of the 13th National Party Congress, have raised the issue of building standards of the Vietnamese culture and people as a central content and driving force to develop a prosperous and happy nation. The Party and State have targeted to build Vietnamese national value systems in the new era. The conference aims to create high consensus in the political system, among party members and others, on the role of culture and the cultural mission of the Vietnamese people. We’ll continue to promote the views of the Party and Uncle Ho that “culture lights the way for the nation”, “culture remains, the nation remains", and “culture and humans are the internal strength of national development.”
Select and define Vietnamese values
Researchers suggest that the national value system consists of values that guide and orient the development of Vietnam toward the the ideology and goals of national independence and socialism set by President Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The national value system is realized by innovation, and building the nation in the transition period to socialism in association with international integration, and the aspiration to develop a prosperous, happy, and eternal nation.
The national value system is a structure of 10 values arranged in three layers of relationship. The first relationship consists of core values – peace, unity, independence, and freedom. The second relationship consists of basic values – solidarity, democracy, fairness, and equality. The third relationship consists of values toward the goals of prosperity and happiness.

The national value system consists of foundational values characterized by ethnicity, humanity, democracy, and science.
The cultural value system consists of patriotism, unity, tolerance, optimism, creativity, innovation, and development.
The family cultural value system, which is built in accordance with the national cultural value system, covers harmony, filial piety, gratitude, loyalty, and happiness.
The standard value system of the Vietnamese people includes honesty, humility, selflessness, kindness, tolerance, creativity, dynamism, dedication, innovation, and development.
Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Communication and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia, said: “First of all, it must be affirmed that we have a culture with thousands of years of history. We have a culture that created strength in the two resistance wars against the French colonialists and the US imperialists to gain national independence, unification, and cultural value for the Vietnamese people in the renewal process, which was mentioned in the documents of the 13th National Party Congress, the summary of 35 years of renewal and 30 years of implementing the Platform for national construction in the transition period."
"Culture and humans have evolved along with national development in the new period and deeper international integration. We must always improve and innovate, but on the foundation of the nation, while promoting the noble values. It’s high time to realize the Party’s guidelines on value systems and consider them the standards for every individual and organization to strive for,” he added.
The foundation for building the Vietnamese value system originates from the history of national formation and defense, from cultural exchanges between Vietnam and other countries, experience gained in history, and the aspiration to develop the Vietnamese nation in the new period. The Vietnamese value system will be preserved and promoted to guide the nation forward.
