(VOVWORLD) - Nearly 130,000 units of blood, the most ever, were collected during this year’s national Red Journey program, a drive to increase blood donations, held from June 1 to July 28 in 431 blood donation stations across Vietnam.
Outstanding individuals and groups are honored at the review meeting in Nha Trang City on August 16, 2024. |
At a review conference in Nha Trang City on Friday, the organizing committee said that 200 units of blood were collected in each blood donation session during nearly two months in 51 provinces and cities.
The Red Journey program has helped reduce the blood shortage in the summer, distributed blood between localities, and spread the spirit of humanity, love and social responsibility.
Bui Thi Hoa, Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation and President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said, “Almost all localities have combined the Red Journey activities with honoring their outstanding blood donors because this year marks the 30th anniversary of Vietnam’s voluntary blood donation movement and the 20th anniversary of the World Blood Donor Day, a milestone to honor and thank blood donors worldwide.”
In response to the Prime Minister's call, this year's Red Journey also called for the tissue and organ donation registration with a message of "Giving is forever".
