16 police officers killed in South Afghanistan
(VOVworld) - Up to 16 officers were killed as militants stormed police checkpoints in Afghanistan’s southern Kandahar province on Friday.

An Afghan official said a group of Taliban rebels attacked some security checkpoints in Miwand district, triggering a gun battle during which 16 officers were killed including checkpoint commander Sardar Wali. The official said dozens of Taliban fighters were also killed and some injured.
