21st Shangri-La Dialogue opens in Singapore
(VOVWORLD) - The 21st Asia Security Summit (Shangri-La Dialogue) opened in Singapore on Friday. Speaking at the opening session, Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. emphasized the Philippines and Southeast Asian countries share a common vision of "peace, stability and prosperity" at East Sea, with a commitment to respect and comply with the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

President Ferdinand Marcos pledged not to cede maritime sovereignty, but pledged to resolve all tensions and disagreements between countries through dialogue and respect for international law. He opposed any use of force or threat to use force to resolve disputes or any arms race in the region.
On Thursday, Defense officials from various countries attended sessions revolving around topics such as "Deterrence and reassurance in Asia - Pacific", "Defense and security cooperation with small countries" and "Myanmar: Diplomatic opportunities amid different visions of peace".
The Shangri-La Dialogue continues until June 2.
