250th birth anniversary of great poet Nguyen Du to be held in Ha Tinh province
(VOVworld) – A national ceremony to mark the 250th birthday of the great poet Nguyen Du will be held in November in Ha Tinh province.

At a press conference to introduce the event on Monday, Ha Tinh provincial authorities said they will cooperate with agencies and localities to organize activities such as workshops on Nguyen Du’s life and career and his works especially “the Tale of Kieu”. Other activities, including talks and competitions on Nguyen Du and his hallmark “Truyen Kieu” (the Tale of Kieu), alongside several documentary film and theatre productions based on life of the poet and his family, are scheduled to be held.
Nguyen Du, also known as To Nhu and Thanh Hien, was born in 1765 to a noble family in Thang Long ( Hanoi ). His father was the former prime minister during the Le Dynasty. His most beloved work is the Tale of Kieu, a 3,254-line classic verse novel written in “luc bat” (six-eight), a traditional Vietnamese verse form.
