Vice Defense Minister Hoang Xuan Chien and USAID administrator Samantha Power also announced a new contract worth 73 million USD for the remediation of 100,000 m3 of dioxin-contaminated soil and sediment at the airport. Bien Hoa airport was used by the US army to store herbicides during the war.

A dioxin removal project for the airport started in 2019 and is expected to be completed in 10 years at a total cost of 450 million USD. The US has contributed more than 160 million USD to its share of 300 million USD.
