Organized annually by the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the Humanitarian New Year program will be conducted nationwide from January 20, 2024 to February 4, 2024.
This second edition of the program is an offshoot of the “Tet for the poor and victims of Agent Orange” drive launched by the Vietnam Red Cross in 1999.
The program is expected to draw 350 international delegates who have come to Vietnam to attend the 11th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Bui Thi Hoa, President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said the program has been organized on a large scale to mobilize the community and give people in need a happy Tet.
The Vietnam Red Cross Society hopes to raise 29.5 million USD to buy 1.2 million gift sets for disadvantaged and vulnerable people.
“The Humanitarian New Year program now helps more vulnerable groups, not just victims of Agent Orange/dioxin and people living in poverty. Beneficiaries will receive both material and emotional support from society, the Party, and the State. Our goal is to deliver 1.2 million Tet gift sets for the poor worth 29.5 million USD,” said Hoa.
The program will also give gift sets to families affected by natural disasters in 2023, and other vulnerable groups. Last year the program helped 2.6 million people in difficult circumstances, two and a half times the program’s goal.
