(VOVWORLD) - The 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits and related meetings opened Tuesday under the chairmanship of Brunei – the 2021 ASEAN chair. The events take place online with the focus on controlling COVID-19 and promoting economic recovery.

With the theme "We care, we prepare, we prosper", the ASEAN meetings will discuss strengthening the ASEAN Community’s post-COVID-19 economic recovery, enhancing ASEAN's readiness to tackle shared challenges, seizing new opportunities to pursue shared prosperity, and cooperating to achieve long-term regional goals.
The meetings will continue until Thursday, attended by ASEAN leaders and dialogue partners, including China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, the United States, Australia, and Russia.
At the end of the summits, Brunei will hand over the ASEAN Chairmanship to Cambodia.
