The event is being attended by leaders of the 10 ASEAN member states, with Timor-Leste as an observer, as well as nine dialogue partners, two guest countries, and nine international organisations.
The Vietnamese delegation is being led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The summit, held from Tuesday to Thursday, will include 12 high-level meetings focused on four topics: upholding a long-term vision of the region, strengthening ASEAN’s resilience in meeting challenges, promoting ASEAN as a center of economic growth, and working toward establishing the Indo-Pacific as a region of peace and prosperity.
The attendees are expected to approve a new regional cooperation platform called ASEAN Concord IV. The initiative for ASEAN Concord IV came from the current chair, Indonesia, and is projected to serve as the foundation for the ASEAN Community's Vision 2045 to address future challenges.
Attendees will also discuss the crisis in Myanmar, the South China Sea, the Ukraine-Russia conflict, and the Korean Peninsula.
It is expected that 50 documents related to politics, security, economy, culture, and society will be approved by the ASEAN leaders.
