50 combat ships in Lithuania for NATO’s largest Baltic drills

(VOVWORLD) - 4,000 NATO personnel will come on 50 combat ships to Lithuania to take part in a large-scale Baltic exercise called Baltops 2024, Lithuanian Navy Commander Admiral Giedrius Premeneckas told reporters on Tuesday. He added that overall, the exercise will involve 9,000 personnel.

In addition to ships from the navies of 21 countries, the exercise will involve 45 combat aircraft. Admiral Premeneckas said the exercise, which will continue through June 22, will be the largest Baltic maneuvers to date.

The goal of Baltops 2024 is to demonstrate strategic coordination among NATO partners at the tactical and operational level and to practice joint crisis response operations.
