The first attack took place in the northern, Shiite-dominated Shaab neighborhood of Baghdad where a suicide bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into a checkpoint next to a commercial area, killing at least 8 civilians and 3 soldiers, along with 14 people injured. In the second attack, a bomb motorcycle went off at a market in Baghdad's eastern Shiite Sadr City district, killing 3 and wounding 10. Another bombing struck an outdoor market in the town of Tarmiyah, about 50 kilometres north of Baghdad, killing 4 civilians and 2 policemen, wounding 19 people.
Islamic State claimed responsibility for Baghdad’s bombing targeting members of Shiite militias in an announcement published on the Internet.
