The ritual, which was restored in 2014, pays respect to the ancestors of the Tran dynasty. Carp and snakehead fish are used in the ritual as those fish, according to legend, were closely associated with the Tran ancestors. The ritual is the most anticipated event in the locality.
Mr. Tran Khac Hieu of Loc Vuong ward, Nam Dinh city, said: “We hold the water procession and fish worshipping ritual to pay tribute to our ancestors and honor their occupation. Though the ritual was largely abandoned for 100 years, the province has restored it and will preserve it forever.”
