(VOVworld) - The seventh Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Summit (ACMECS 7) and the eighth Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Summit (CLMV 8) opened in Hanoi on Wednesday.

In his opening speech, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that after more than a decade, cooperation in CLMV and ACMECS have reaped numerous important outcomes, contributing to spurring each country’s socio-economic development, building the ASEAN community, and consolidating sound neighbourly ties, peace and stability in the region.

Mr. Phuc said the achievements illustrate efforts by all five countries and effective cooperation and support from development partners, international donors, and especially ASEAN.
He said: “We have favorable conditions for developing the CLMV and ACMECS where we will discuss the new development environment and agree on ways to build an economic zone of dynamism, competitiveness, sustainable growth, and inclusiveness. The Vietnamese government attaches great importance to cooperation in CLMV and ACMECS and stands ready to work closely with member countries and development partners for the region’s peace, stability, sustainable growth, and prosperity.”

This year, the CLMV 8 is themed “Seizing opportunities, shaping the future” and the ACMECS 7 has the theme “Towards a dynamic and prosperous Mekong sub-region”. The themes reflect the common goal of building a peaceful and prosperous Mekong Sub-region, highlight Mekong countries’ dynamism and ability to seize opportunities, and respond to the need to innovate and find new ways to boost cooperation.
