(VOVworld) - The Vietnamese embassy in Thailand held a ceremony in Bangkok on Monday to mark the 70^th anniversary of Vietnam’s diplomatic sector and the 20^th anniversary of its ASEAN membership. Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Tat Thanh highlighted the development of Vietnam’s diplomatic sector over the decades. He said Vietnam had established diplomatic ties with 185 nations in the world, 26 of them are comprehensive or strategic partners. He added that Vietnam was also a responsible member of more than 70 international organizations. Ambassador Thanh emphasized that Thailand was the first ASEAN member to establish strategic partnership with Vietnam, and the only one that had held joint cabinet meetings with Vietnam. He also highlighted the Thai Government’s policies towards Vietnam in recent years and voiced his hope that other ASEAN members will, together with Vietnam, make further sustainable contributions to ASEAN’s development.
