Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, the speaker of the parliament’s lower house, said on Saturday that lawmakers voted in favor of 16 new cabinet nominees. He added that the decision means the 25-member cabinet of President Ashraf Ghani is now nearly complete. However, just as the “fighting season” between Afghan security forces and the Taliban militants begins, no nominee has been proposed for the crucial Defense Ministry. Currently, an interim minister is heading the ministry. Despite a power-sharing deal agreed between Ghani and Abdullah, the setbacks in establishing the new administration in Afghanistan have stirred up fears of instability in the war-torn country.
