Abdullah Abdullah (L) and Ashraf Ghani signed the agreement in the presidential palace in Kabul.

Under the agreement, Ashraf Ghani, the election’s winner, will become the Afghan president while runner-up Abdullah Abdullah will become “Chief Executive Officer”—similar to the post of Prime Minister. Under the 2001 Afghan Constitution since 2001, the President holds most of the power while the CEO serves as Prime Minister for a two-year term.
