At a conference on Thursday to propose ways to deal with natural disasters for the rest of the year, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep said Vietnam’s infrastructure is getting more resistant to natural disasters, but is still vulnerable to extreme disasters. He urged localities to upgrade their infrastructure to mitigate natural disasters.
He said, “The biggest challenge to our efforts to prevent natural disasters this year is the COVID-19 pandemic. When evacuating people from a natural disaster, it is important to arrange as many evacuation places as possible to minimize large gatherings and disease spreading. The National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting needs to give accurate forecasts and warnings to minimize the need to evacuate people and the risk of COVID-19 spreading”.
