Al-Zawahiri, 71, succeeded Osama bin Laden as the leader of the terror group in 2011 after helping led the Sept. 11 terror attacks that murdered nearly 3,000 people in America.
The 71-year-old was on the FBI's most-wanted terrorist list, having declared the US 'the far enemy', with a 25 million USD reward for information leading directly to him.
