American countries hail progress in Cuba-US ties
(VOVworld) – Several American countries have hailed Cuba and the US’s normalization of ties and announcement that they will reopen their embassies. The Argentinean government praised the progress made in bilateral dialogues between Cuba and the US toward ending the 5-decade long US trade embargo. Bolivia’s Deputy President Alvaro Garcia Linera called the progress Cuban victory and said it should have been done 40 years ago. The Chilean Foreign Ministry sent a message of congratulations to Cuba and the US for their determination and political commitment to trust and cooperation.
Uruguay’s government hailed the occasion and said the steps being taken by the US and Cuba have helped consolidate cooperation throughout the entire hemisphere.
The Brazilian Foreign Ministry expressed its delight at the news, while the government of Ecuador congratulated Cuba and said this is a victory of dignity, sovereignty, and solidarity among nations.
Carlos Chacho Álvarez, General Secretary of the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI) said this is a huge victory for the US and the Cuban people’s iron will and faith.
