Vietnamese Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong held talks with President Barack Obama during his visit to the US in July 2015

(VOVworld) – In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency following Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to the US, Michael Michalak, former US Ambassador to Vietnam, said that the visit was of historic significance, indicating the trust and depth of the relationship between the two countries.
He said bilateral ties will flourish in the future through cooperation and dialogue. Anthony Nelson, who manages Vietnamese affairs at the US - ASEAN Business Council, also shared Michalak’s view on General Secretary Trong’s historic visit.
He said Vietnam’s economy has increasingly integrated globally, opening up great cooperative opportunities for Vietnam and its partners. He believed that Vietnamese-US economic ties will soar and that they would become vital trade partners in the future.
