A delegate from South Korea said: “Climate change was a priority of the South Korean Red Cross Society but recent climate induced disasters made us realize how important it is to work in climate related activities. At a recent international meeting, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol decided to contribute 2.6 billion USD to the GCF. He also declared that by 2030, Korea will mitigate all related carbon emission and also 50% of natural carbon we will achieve by 2050.”

“As a young sovereign country, Timor-Leste is small island located between the Southeast Asia and the Pacific Ocean. Geographically, Timor-Leste is situated in an area of higher risk of natural disasters. The Timor-Leste Red Cross recognized the collective effort from all relevant entities by engaging partners across all the levels, all the mechanisms to ensure a joint cooperative responsibility,” said a delegate from Timor-Leste.

According to a delegate from Malaysia, “Climate change and related crisis have become an increasingly urgent issue for Malaysia in recent years. Rapid urbanization has increased the frequency and intensity of disasters such as floods and resulted in extreme weather events. The Malaysian President committed to enhancing climate actions, and strong relationship with local communities, building on knowledge and experience to facilitate the disaster preparedness and resilience effort.”

The conference worked out 7 fundamental principles for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to promote cooperation and friendship in dealing with issues of common concern.
