Over the past 25 years, Vietnam has actively, responsibly, and effectively contributed to all areas of cooperation within APEC, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang told the press ahead of President Thuong’s trip. Vietnam is one of the few economies entrusted and supported by members to host APEC Year twice, in 2006 and 2017.
Vietnam has been among the most active members in promoting collaborative initiatives and projects, with nearly 150 projects spanning human resource development, e-commerce promotion, food security, women's economic empowerment, and rural and urban development, all while addressing climate change, said Deputy Minister Hang.
Vietnam has affirmed its executive role by actively promoting the implementation of APEC cooperation programs and assuming important positions in the Forum's mechanisms. Notably, Vietnam has taken on the roles of Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat and Chairman of the ASEAN group in APEC.
Deputy Minister Hang highlighted President Thuong’s agenda for the Summit Week, where he will speak and engage in multiple working sessions at the APEC Business Summit. Mr. Thuong will deliver a strong message to the business community, encouraging collaborative efforts to overcome current challenges and seize opportunities for the sustainable development of the region.
President Thuong's activities at the APEC Summit and bilateral engagements with senior leaders and US partners are poised to further bolster relations in line with the spirit of the Joint Statement on the establishment of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
