APEC ministers discuss market opening
(VOVWORLD) - Foreign ministers and trade ministers from the 21 members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum met in Port Moresby, Papua-New Guinea, on Thursday to discuss ways to open markets and achieve regional economic integration.
The ministers also studied measures to realize the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP) that will cover about half of global trade and 60 % of the world economy.
The ministers' meeting paved the way for the two-day APEC summit in the Papua-New Guinea capital this weekend, an event that will bring together Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, US Vice President Mike Pence, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and other regional leaders.
