Deputy Head of the Vietnamese Government Committee for Religious Affairs Bui Thanh Ha said the Vu Lan festival has long been a great festival for Buddhists and a chance for people to show their gratitude to their ancestors, grandparents, and parents. Mr. Ha said the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has organized charity activities, presented gifts to policy beneficiaries, and organized requiems for soldiers fallen during Vietnam’s struggles for national independence.
Vu Lan coincides with All Souls’ Day, which falls on the 15th day of the 7th Lunar month.
