The ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Inter Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) agreed to enhance cooperation and support each other in regional integration to achieve the goal of building an ASEAN Community by 2015. This came after their meeting in Bali, Indonesia on Thursday. ASEAN Deputy Secretary General Bagas Hapsoro said that assistance from the legislatures of member states is crucial for building the ASEAN Community. He said the meeting was an opportunity for the two organizations to gain a better understanding of each other’s role and advance constructive proposals. Antonio Cuenco, AIPA’s Secretary General, stressed that ASEAN needs help to become a strong, active, and prosperous community.
