(VOVworld) – ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh has briefed the press over ASEAN’s orientations and agenda in 2014 following the just concluded ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting in Bagan, Myanmar on Friday.

Mr. Minh said ASEAN will give priority to implementing the remaining tasks in the process to build an ASEAN community. So far, ASEAN has managed to finish 80 percent of the roadmap toward building an ASEAN community based on 3 pillars. The possibility whether this goal can be achieved depends largely on the progress the block can achieve in 2014 with Myanmar, ASEAN president in 2014 playing an important role in this process.

Regarding Myanmar’s ASEAN presidency and its preparations for upcoming conferences, the Secretary said that Myanmar holds ASEAN presidency for the first time after 17 years since its ASEAN membership, but the country has made thorough preparation for its presidency. He added member countries as well as the Secretariat are ready to cooperate with Myanmar to help it successfully fulfill its tasks as ASEAN president.
