(VOVworld) – The ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) began in Malaysia on Tuesday. On today’s agenda, ASEAN senior officials discussed building an ASEAN Community and reviewed ASEAN’s structure and Timor Leste’s application to join ASEAN.

The ASEAN Secretariat spoke about the applications of Serbia, Iran, and Morocco to sign the Treaty of Amity and Co-operation in Southeast Asia, ASEAN’s post-2015 Vision, ASEAN’s central role, and reviewed a number of East Asia Summit mechanisms. On Wednesday senior ASEAN officials will decide the agenda for the up-coming Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM Retreat). They will also discuss foreign relations issues, including the preparation for an ASEAN-Russia summit in Moscow this year or next and the Philippines’ preparation for the 27^th ASEAN-Australia Forum in March.
