ASEAN to discuss East Sea issue

(VOVworld) – ASEAN’s vision in the post-2015 period, its role among regional entities, and its relations with partners are high on the agenda of the 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting, which opened in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

In an interview with VOV’s correspondent, Vietnam’s Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung said ASEAN’s foreign ministers and partners will discuss the building of the ASEAN Community and future co-operation between ASEAN and its partners, focusing on increasing ASEAN’s role in trade and investment, poverty reduction, tourism, and culture.About the East Sea, Mr Trung said:
“I believe peace and security are prerequisites to regional development and co-operation. Regional security, including the East Sea situation, will be one of the top concerns of ASEAN and its partners.”
