Themed “Stronger Actions to Address the Zero Hunger Challenge”, the event aims to raise awareness of and cooperation among young people in poverty eradication, and providing them with a platform to take action in the fight against hunger. Vietnam will take the opportunity to announce its accomplishments towards the UN Millennium Development Goals. Secretary of the Youth Union, Dang Quoc Toan, says: “The ASEM Youth Week is an event for young ASEM people to share information and ideas to promote their role in building a prosperous, peaceful, and developed world. They will have interesting discussions on politics, society, and economics and measures to promote youth participation in resolving regional and global issues.”
It is expected that the week will draw the participation of about 100 youths and students from 30 ASEM member nations. At the Model ASEM, a simulation of the actual ASEM Summit, participants will act as leaders to discuss the pillars of ASEM, namely politics, economy, and socio-culture.
