Attacks in Red Sea pose serious threat to global maritime security and trade: IMO Secretary General
(VOVWORLD) - Attacks against ships in the Red Sea, such as the True Confidence attack and the sinking of the Rubymar, pose a serious threat to global maritime security and maritime trade in the region, according to Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

In a recent talk with Vietnam News Agency correspondents in the UK, Dominguez said the attacks have had a negative impact on global trade, directly threatening global supply chains.
Prolonged disruptions in container shipping could cause delayed deliveries, higher costs, and inflation, potentially affecting energy security and food security.
He pointed out that the first impact of these attacks is on sailors before any impact on trade, and the primary focus of the IMO is on the safety of sailors who are doing their job, permitting world trade to continue.
The IMO chief said the organization is closely monitoring developments in the Red Sea and maintaining a continuous dialogue and diplomacy to ensure that sailors, ships, and cargo are protected.
