Australia, Philippines hold first joint military exercises in East Sea

(VOVWORLD) - Defense cooperation between Australia and the Philippines is rapidly strengthening as the two countries hold their first joint military exercises. Known as the Alon exercise, these training sessions are taking place from August 14 to this Thursday, and are being hosted by Australia as part of the Indo-Pacific Operation 2023.

On August 21, Australia and the Philippines conducted their initial joint air strike training exercise in the South China Sea (called the East Sea in Vietnam), marking a significant milestone in their collaboration.

Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles noted that this exercise is just the beginning, as both countries intend to pursue numerous joint military activities in the future, including joint patrols in the South China Sea.
