Australia to increase ODA for Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) -The Australian Government on Tuesday announced its budget plan for the 2024-2025 fiscal year with a commitment to increasing official development assistance (ODA) for many regions and countries including Vietnam.

Under the plan, Australia has pledged a total of 63.6 million USD for Vietnam, an increase of nearly 4 million USD against the previous fiscal year. In addition to security, health, economic stability and recovery, Australia also supports Vietnam’s climate initiatives approved by the “Aus4Adaptation” program.
Australia will increase its total development aid budget by an additional 200 million AUD or 132 million USD with totals increasing from 3.17 billion USD to 3.30 billion USD.
It pledged to spend 860 million USD to support Southeast Asia, with a focus on climate change response, sustainable development, gender equality, people with disabilities, and disadvantaged communities. In particular, Australia will give 148 million USD to strengthen resilience and promote prosperity in the Mekong subregion.
