(VOVWORLD) - Governor-General of Australia David Hurley on Monday began a four-day State visit to Vietnam Mat the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong.

According to official statements from both sides, the Governor-General will hold talks with President Thuong and meet with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
Prior to the visit, Dr. Nguyen Hong Hai, an honorary research fellow at the Centre for Policy Futures of the University of Queensland, Australia, said the visit will create a new impetus for the relationship between the two countries.
Hai noted that this year Vietnam and Australia are celebrating 50 years of diplomatic ties (February 26) and five years of strategic partnership (March 15).
Mr Hurley’s visit draws attention ot the attainment of a significant milestone in Australia-Vietnam relations, and affirms the continuation of high-level meetings and contacts to consolidate political trust between the two countries, he said.
