(VOVWORLD) - US President Joe Biden on Monday marked the fourth anniversary of the deadly shooting at a Florida school that left 17 people dead, and pressed Congress to enact measures aimed at reducing gun violence in the US.

He asked Congress to do much more, beginning with requiring background checks on all gun sales, banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and eliminating immunity for gun manufacturers.
The president also asked Congress to approve a budget that allocates 5 billion USD to strategies proven to reduce violent crime and requested more funding for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the US Marshals.
President Biden said the US government will stand with advocates to end gun violence and proposed a plan to reduce gun crime by outlawing the sale of guns of unclear origin and strengthening surveillance of gun traffickers.
On February 14, 2018, 23-year-old Nikolas Cruz shot and killed 14 students and three teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
