Eastern time (8 pm Hanoi time) on Friday, the White House said. This is part of ongoing efforts to maintain open lines of communication between the United States and China, according to the statement.

The two leaders will discuss managing the competition between the two countries, Russia's military operation against Ukraine, and other issues of mutual concern.

A Chinese foreign ministry official met this week with Russia's ambassador to China to exchange views on counter-terrorism and security cooperation, the Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement on Friday.

The same day, Japan and Australia announced separate measures sanctioning Russian individuals and organisations including the state-owned arms exporter, the finance ministry and the central bank.
