British Foreign Secretary: possibility for EU to renegotiate Brexit
(VOVWORLD) -British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, a contender to replace Theresa May as prime minister, said Sunday that German Chancellor Angela Merkel has indicated that the EU is willing to renegotiate the Brexit divorce deal.

Merkel said EU leaders can now seek a technical solution to the Irish border problem, which Brussels previously claimed to be impractical.
May made a deal with the EU last year only to see it rejected three times by British lawmakers, forcing her to delay Brexit twice - the latest extension being to October 31. A controversial provision in the agreement concerning the Irish border known as the backstop proved to be the key stumbling block. It would prevent the return of border checks between the British province of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland if the two sides failed to agree a free trade pact after an initial transition period.
