(VOVworld) - Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has granted royal assent to the Brexit bill, paving the way for Prime Minister Theresa May to start the country's departure from the European Union.

Mrs. May says she will trigger the process before the end of March.

The British parliament approved the Brexit bill on Monday, giving Ms. May the legal authority to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, the prescribed procedure for a EU member to leave. The move will kickstart a two-year process of negotiating a new relationship between the UK and the EU.
