Themed “Karst Plateau Vitality”, this year’s festival will feature an exhibition of local “One Commune, One Product” (OCOP) agricultural products, a marathon called “Running on the Happiness Route”, an auto race, a motorbike race, a kayak race, and a paddle board race on the Nho Que River.
Visitors will also enjoy floral displays along Dong Van road, as well as ethnic minority folk games, sports events, and traditional cuisine.
The blooming season for buckwheat flowers is from late autumn until February, when the traditional Lunar New Year festival is held. Buckwheat flowers are most prolific in Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Meo Vac, and Dong Van district, where the landscape resembles a fairy tale.
Ethnic people used to grind buckwheat seeds into flour, which was cooked for food or used to make wine. Tender young stems were eaten as a vegetable and older stems were fodder for goats and cows.
