Cambodia: CNRP agrees to negotiate with CPP

Mao Monivan, one opposition member of the Joint-Committee on Electoral Reforms said the decision was made after CPP said at the negotiation, the two sides will discuss reforms of the National Election Committee (NEC). According to CNRP’s proposal, the upcoming negotiation will discuss the independent role of the NEC and NEC members must be approved by two-thirds of members of parliament. Earlier, Head of CPP Bin Chhin stressed the process of electoral reforms will be discussed by the Joint-Committee on Electoral Reforms including voter registration, lists of candidates and financial law between parties. Bin Khin expressed his belief that at the upcoming negotiation, the two sides are likely to reach an agreement on mechanism of electoral reforms as premise for later elections.
