At the inauguration ceremony, the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that the bridge was essential for residents on both sides of the river and would contribute to boosting the economy and reducing poverty. He added that the bridge would help reduce time and transportation cost of goods by roads between Vietnam and Cambodia’s Siem Riep province. The construction of the bridge began in 2012 and links Kandal province with the capital Phnom Penh.
