He said Ottawa is determined to resume relations with the UN Security Council and revitalize Canada’s role as a key contributor to peacekeeping. He pledged Canada’s commitment to international peace and security by contributing armed forces and police, security experts, and supporting civilian organizations.
The 193 members of the UN General Assembly won't vote on the seat Canada is pursuing until the fall of 2020. If it succeeds, Canada will become a non-permanent member for a 2-year term that begins in 2021.
