Central region gears up measures to cope with typhoon Wutip
(VOVworld) – Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has asked central provinces to mobilize all resources and forces available to cope with typhoon No 10, internationally known as Wutip, which he described as dangerous. The central region is forecast to be directly affected by the typhoon with expected heavy inundation and torrential rains. Deputy Prime Minister Hai asked the relevant agencies to reinforce houses and fisheries breeding areas and scrutinize reservoirs and works under construction. He also requested timely evacuation of local residents from high-risk areas in coastal areas and the western part of the central region before 9AM on Monday.
Localities from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai provinces have banned fishing boats from sailing and supported fishermen to protect their boats. Approximately 50,000 boats and 250,000 workers have been informed of the typhoon’s location and direction to timely seek shelter.
Da Nang city’s Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control convened an emergency meeting on Sunday to discuss measures to cope with the typhoon. Le Duy Vong, Head of the Office of the Committee, said: “All boats have docked safely. The city vice mayor has instructed border guards to cooperate with Son Tra, Thanh Khe and Lien Chieu districts to help local citizens transport their equipment to shore.”
The Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control of Thua Thien Hue province has requested all relevant agencies to standby and prepare adequate equipment and forces to deal with any contingency. Nguyen Liem, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hai Duong commune said: “We have prepared to evacuate 56 households from high-risk areas. As soon as we receive the order, they will be moved to safe places immediately.”
Quang Tri province has asked for evacuation work to be completed as quickly as 5 PM on Sunday.
