Cheo opera attracts big audience in Paris

(VOVworld)- Performers of the Vietnam National Cheo Theatre won the audience’s heart with a famous Cheo play called the ‘Quan Am Thi Kinh’ at the Maison des Cultures du Monde in Paris recently.  Daniel, who attended the show, said: "I’ve heard a lot about eastern theater but this is the first time I’ve watched a cheo play from Vietnam and I think it’s wonderful. The actors and actresses’ skills and voices are excellent. The plot is of great educational value, telling us a story of a brave woman who had to disguise herself as a man, which is similar to some western folk tales. I’ve learnt a lot from the play and I was really moved by it." Head of the Vietnamese delegation to UNESCO, Ambassador Duong Van Quang, spoke at the event: "The acting and the staging of the Vietnamese art troupe here was excellent. I hope that in the coming time, Cheo will complete its dossier for UNESCO’s recognition as world intangible cultural heritage."
Cheo traditional opera originated in the Red River Delta area in the North of Vietnam. It is a narrative genre of folk theatre, recounting historical, legendary and humorous folk stories through a combination of music, singing, and dance.
