(VOVWORLD) - China and Russia said Friday that they firmly oppose unilateralism and protectionism, oppose power politics and bullying, and oppose unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law.

The position was affirmed in a joint statement issued by visiting Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
According to the statement, Russia and China reiterate their unwavering commitment to multilateralism. The two countries call on the international community to jointly preserve the international system with the UN at its core and the international order underpinned by international law.
Both countries will continue to defend the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, particularly the principles of sovereign equality and non-interference in internal affairs of other countries, the statement said.
The two countries will work to maintain world peace and stability, uphold international fairness and justice, and advocate reforming and improving the global governance, the statement added.
