The visit followed the 3rd inter-Korean summit, in which the two signed the historic Panmunjom Joint Statement. Seoul and Pyongyang pledged to issue a declaration to end the war this year, confirm the goal of nuclear disarmament on the Korean peninsula, and promote trilateral negotiations including the two Koreans and the US, or a 4-party negotiation mechanism, including China. They said these efforts aim to advance to the signing of a peace agreement, to end the war on the Korean peninsula, and to build a solid and long-lasting peace.
