With a budget of 100 million USD, the film is based on the 2005 biography entitled “American Prometheus” by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. It's about physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer played by Irish actor Cillian Murphy. Oppenheimer is considered the “father” of the atomic bomb.
According to Box Office Mojo, an online movie publication, Oppenheimer brought in 950 million USD in revenue, the 3rd highest gross in 2023 after “Barbie” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”, which together earned 1.3 billion USD.

When accepting his award, Nolan, who won his first Golden Globe after 6 previous nominations, said, “I can only accept this on behalf of our dear friend. As directors, we bring people together and we try to get them to give their best. Robert, Cillian, my partner in crime for 20 years…, and the incredible work of our amazing crew.”
Following its win at this year’s Golden Globes, “Oppenheimer” and director Nolan are considered a leading candidate for this year’s Oscar categories.
