(VOVworld) – The Quang Ngai provincial Youth Union has begun the construction of a flagpole on the peak of Thoi Loi mountain on Ly Son island. With an estimated cost of more than 38,000 USD, the flagpole looking towards the Paracel archipelago will be 25 meters tall and record the latitude and longitude of Ly Son island. Nguyen Hoang Hiep, Deputy Head of the provincial Youth Union, said the flagpole affirms Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty and will help teach young people across the country about Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty. Funds for the flagpole’s design and construction were raised by students nationwide. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
