(VOVWORLD) -US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is on an official visit to Vietnam, attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the new US Embassy campus in Hanoi on Saturday.

Secretary Blinken was joined by Ambassador Marc Knapper at the ceremony. Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc, and Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan were among the attendees.

The Embassy campus project was first announced during the visit to Vietnam by US Vice President Kamala Harris in August 2021.
The complex spans 3.2 hectares at Pham Van Bach street, Cau Giay district, Hanoi. It will have a pond of lotus, Vietnam's national flower, symbolizing nobility and optimism about the future.
