Countries deliver condolence to Mexico

(VOVWORLD) - Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on Wednesday declared 3 days of national mourning in the wake of an earthquake which killed over 250 people the day before.

Pope Francis on Wednesday, in a speech at St. Peter’s square in Vatican City, offered condolences and prayers for Mexico. US President Donald Trump said on Twitter “God bless the people of Mexico City” and vowed to stand by Mexico. German Chancellor Angela Merkel pledged Germany's solidarity with Mexico, expressing her deepest condolences to those who lost a loved one. New Zealand’s foreign minister Gerry Brownlee expressed sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives, and said New Zealand stands ready to support any international effort. Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said China believes Mexican people will recover from the disaster and rebuild their life. The Israeli government has sent 70 soldiers, engineers, and rescue workers to Mexico. Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang on Wednesday sent a message of sympathy to his Mexican counterpart Enrique Pena Nieto.
